Movie Review: X-Men Origins

After two hard days of riding, we decided to take our time and ride the 90 miles to Binghamton in two days, instead of the originally planned single day. We left Cooperstown yesterday, still unsure where we would spend the night, and rode toward the Brewery Ommegang, which was a highlight of a bike trip I did last September. We enjoyed the tour and tasting, and picnicked on the beautiful grounds.

We were prepared to look for camping, but a Couch Surfing host that we had contacted earlier offered us a place in Oneonta, NY. Our friendly, young hosts invited us to the drive-in theater, to drink beers and watch a cheesy movie while one of them reported on the theater for a local paper. We took an old SUV, and I sat in the back among pillows and blankets. As we approached the ticket booth, someone suggested that I duck under a blanket and save a few bucks. Before I knew it, a girl hopped into the back with me, and we scrambled to lay flat and cover ourselves. We parked, settled in, and to the sweet sounds of X-Men Origins's always-tense score, I alternately watched amazing displays of super powers, looked up at the starry sky, and let my mind wander. I usually avoid summer blockbusters, so it was fun to remember how dumb they are. Thanks for the fun times and the couch, gals!

Having put in a few miles yesterday, we had just 60 miles to ride today. No longer battling the wind, we had a pleasant ride into Binghamton, breaking to eat and climb a huge maple.

Now we relax in our home city, where we will join Lee and Stefano for the next leg of our journey.
